The application contains more than 250 works, and includes video, audio, zoomable high-resolution images, theme groupings and image galleries.

Love Art is a Pentimento application created by Antenna Audio, the world’s leading producer of mobile interpretation for museums and cultural attractions.

The art term Pentimento refers to layers of alteration that reveal changes in composition and thinking from the artist. It is a lasting trace, often hidden to the eye, of the process and the maker.

Pros and cons of Love Art: National Gallery, London app for iPhone and iPad

Love Art: National Gallery, London app good for

Personally, I just wanted to scroll through a gallery with text, not audio commentary. And obviously, since its limited to one art gallery, its missing a lot of great work and artists, most notably Mona Lisa and Raphaels works. But overall, lots of insightful info and wonderful art. Maybe add a feature where you view all the artists work with brief textual descriptions?
Who cares if its missing the Mona Lisa. There is so much art to be discovered and this app goes further than most by providing some insight in to the paintings. Those of us who arent art experts who may miss some of the subtle aspects of a work will appreciate the voice overs. And if you dont like it you can always turn the sound off.
On recommendation of a friend, I bought this app and am glad I did. The works discussed are at the National Gallery in London which is why the Mona Lisa isnt included (as its in the Louvre!). Interesting background information on artworks, artists - presenters and video quality is very good
Great comment about the painting and his background. However, comments cover only 12 paintings. Therefore, ensure that youre interested in Da Vincis Virgin of the Rocks, Van Goghs Sunflowers, Holbeins Ambassadors, Botticellis Venus and Mars, Rembrandts Self Portrait, the Wilton Dyptich, Van Eycks Arnolfini portrait, Jones Wall in Naples, Renoirs Umbrella, Velazquez Rockeby Venus, Vermeers Young Woman Standing at a Virginal and Ingres Madame de Moitessier before buying.
This is so dense and inspiring, so many ways to look at art, play with artworks, this is really addictive. I wish other museums could have this, will it come soon ?
Loved it! I wish there were more apps like this. I hope they come out with Love art 2.

Some bad moments

I bought this to walk around the gallery with thinking it would be better than the audio guide, it is definitely not a replacement for the guide as it only covers a handful of the major works. As a stand alone program it is only ok, much better to watch the "private life of a masterpiece" series or buy a used art history book.
In searching for an app/program that may allow students who are visually impaired to learn about art, I found this one mentioned in an article. I immediately purchased it and found that their description of the app Is far from center. Where are the descriptions of the artwork? Another issue worth the app is that it continuously crashes. Id like my $$ back!
It wont even install on my ipod thru wi fi. Ive tried over a hundred times!!!!!
I paid the $2.99 for this app and am not crazy about it. It shows very little of the collection on the Gallery. The app for the Louve is much more impressive! This is one I should have skipped. It should be free.
I liked it when it first appeared. But when compared to new apps like terrific "Art & Music" or "Art of impression", it is static and tedious. The content of the app needs new ideas and smarter narrations. Im getting sick of the speculations... When it on one occasion its ok, but not every other statement.
Typical, promise you anything- deliver much less. Could have been a great app!
